Saturday, January 7, 2017 –“Josh Christina and Daryl Davis” – Glen Echo Park, Spanish Ballroom, 7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo, MD 20812; 8:30 pm – 11:30 pm; Presenter: American Swing; Recommended Ages: All ages welcome; Admission: $20/$15 ages 11-17; It's a path that seemed destined from the start. Born into a musical family, Baltimore-based rockabilly artist, Josh Christina inherited his musical chops from his father (a drummer), his mother (Baltimore-area singer Patti Christina), and his grandmother, who was a big band singer in the '40's and '50's. He's spent the last 15 years honing his sound - a combination of the country, classic rock, big band and rockabilly he was raised on. And while most artists find the pressures of today's music scene to look and sound a certain way daunting, Christina continues to find success in both Baltimore and Nashville by doing what he does best - being himself. Tonight, Josh is joined onstage by Daryl Davis, also known as the Boogie Man! No one sits still when Daryl pounds out throbbing Boogie Woogie and rock and roll on the piano, nicely accented by the occasional Chuck Berry-like guitar riff! When these two giant talents are onstage together, prepare yourself for a night of Boogie Woogie piano that'll keep you on the dance floor all night long.A beginning Swing lesson from 8 to 9 pm is included with admission and is followed by dancing until midnight. Throughout the show, DWP takes you on a journey from foundational tunes of groups like the Crests, Belmonts and Flamingos through their influences on the sounds of Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, and the Four Seasons…all the way to Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz and Amy Winehouse. Featuring current and former stars of Broadway’s smash hits Jersey Boys and Motown: The Musical, and their hot band, The Doo Wop Project brings unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence to recreate — and in some cases entirely reimagine — some of the greatest music in American pop and rock history. The level of talent, artistry and ability to entertain is off the charts with this show.
